The night's cold embrace was heartless as the somber wind breeze traveled through the air. An ebony cat was mumbling profanity as his temper raised past the point of annoyance. The black cat was testing his luck against the weather and the humans shelter.
"Son of a bitch!" Salem growled burying his claws into wood as he climbed his way up. His patience was wearing as thin as water. His earlier attempts at making his way up to the open window had ended in failure after he slowly began to slide down. His claw marks has imprinted into the wood making ever next climb that much more easier. Still though, it was taking to long. He was freezing as if it was truly a cold day in hell.
As every minute passed it was added to his sum of anger. He was so close yet so far away, it was like trying to reach the stars. He kicked into overdrive and proceeded up quickly. Finally grasping the edge of the window still he let out a sigh of relief. Slashing his razors against the wood beneath him he leaped up and landed harshly on the window still. "Thank god." he mewed sarcastically. Salem lowered his head under the half opened window cautiously gazing at the surrounding inside. No humans in sight thankfully. He crouched and slipped through like a snake.
Dropping onto the ground he smirked "You know, I feel like enjoying myself tonight." he said inside the house, half to himself, half to convince his conscious this would be fun.

She placed her tiny pink nose upon a pile of leaves that smelled awful. The kit knew exactly what they were, and gingerly pawed them to the yarrow pile. "You mean it, Darksong?" She asked softly, a smile hinting at the corners of her maw. Darksong had been telling her this for awhile, now. When was she going to be special, and why?
"I had a dream about you last night.." Darksong continued, approving the kit's sorting. "What happened?" She asked yet again, taking a moment to look back at the she-cat. The she-cat's gaze turned away from Icekit's. "Oh, nothing." Honestly, Icekit had gone to visit Darksong in the middle of the night, and Darksong was whining her sleep, wailing. Icekit had retreated back to her mother's safety, back in the den to nest near her warm belly.
She didn't ask anymore, though. Honestly, she knew the medicine cat's dreams were omens or prophecies. Did she have a bad dream about Icekit's future? Was that why she was so quiet about her dream? Maybe she was just lying, maybe she didn't dream about Icekit.
Nightingale quickly woke up. She was high in a tree, where no badgers or foxes could get her. It was hard to not fall off of, especially when sleeping, but she'd been sleeping in trees for awhile now. She didn't miss the clan life at all. She hadn't gotten a lot of sleep, but she realized it was around the time she would be visiting Red, her close kittypet friend. The clans frowned upon kittypets, but they really had lives better than everybody. They didn't have to worry about catching prey, or getting clean water. They could sleep all day. Some even could wander outside of their fenced in gardens.
She didn't exactly want that life, though. So many times Red's twolegs tried to take her in but she just wasn't interested. She stretched out on the branch and began to ease her way down the trunk. When she reached the ground she padded away from clan territory and towards Twolegplace. She pawed her way through the forest, the brittle night breeze nipping at her tan fur. It was absolutely freezing. Newleaf was only just beginning. She saw Red's home and clawed her way up his fence. He was nowhere to be found. She noticed that their car was gone. They must be gone somewhere.. She thought to herself.
The pretty she-cat went to turn around and go back to another tree, but she heard claws scuffling along a surface. Her icy blue gaze raked upon the ebony figure that had slipped into the house. Where'd he gone? Wait, was she hallucinating? Well.. it wouldn't hurt to check. "Idiot," she muttered under her breath, looking at the window he'd managed to sneak into. She crawled under the deck and through a small hole her and Red had made together, so that she could sneak in on especially cold nights, like this.
It was dark, but the glimmer of moonlight supplied just enough illumination for her to find her way through Red's home. She was sure he wouldn't care if she was in there. She just couldn't break anything. She bent down in stalking position and peeked around the corner, where she'd seen the figure crawl through the window.
She did the one thing that, probably, wasn't the best idea.. she spoke. "Hello? Is anyone here?" she called, her mouth drawing in the scents around her.

Salem stretch out across the floor, his muscles relaxing from his frustrating ascent. There was still a cool breeze, but nothing a temperature dial couldn't sort out. Not like the humans would mind anyway, how could they know? He searched around making his way from here to there becoming familiar to the house. His grim vision looking for something in particular. A light switch would set him free from the darkness engulfing him. He gazed high across the walls and looked back and forth for his target.
He was starting to loose hope that he'd be looking forever before he finally spotted it high next to a chimney. Salem narrowed his gazed trying to focus "Now how am I going up get up there." he whispered. He had almost come to a conclusion when a voice uttered in the dark.
"Hello, is anyone there?"
Oh hell.
Salem quietly slumped down and pressed himself against the wall beside him. Slinking across it he made his way to the voice. Hesitating he reluctantly pushed his head out from the shield of the wall to spy on the uninvited guest. Salem almost couldn't believe his eyes.
Ducking behind the wall again he stared at the ground in thought. Should he attack or simply reveal himself, maybe she lives here? Breathing in deep her scent he could easily confirm she wasn't a house cat. Not from this house at least. Mustering up his confidence he casually padded out from behind cover.
"Well, whats a fine cat like you doing sneaking around?" Salem questioned holding back a laugh. Taking a mental image of her he gazed around, she didn't have anyone else with her. She was just probably playing thief. Sexy.

She narrowed her eyes and backed up, careful not to make much noise, and maybe he wouldn't notice that she was crouching there. The she-cat attempted to keep her breathing shallow, keeping her nose close to the hardwood floors. When he came out from cover, she could still barely see him, yet she could hear his cocky voice, "Well, whats a fine cat like you doing sneaking around?" She made a choking noise in disbelief. Are you serious? She held back an airy laugh before strolling out confidently.
"First of all, ew," she snorted, "second, why are you here? There's nothing you need," she continued, flicking her tail and looking around the room. How the hell were they supposed to turn on the lights? If he were to attack her, she would certainly flip a shit. She was silently hoping Red would be home, but she knew the ginger tom was no where to be found. How could he stand to sit in a car like that? Ever since she realized how dangerous they were.. even dangerous enough to kill her mother.. she was really fearing them.
"This is my friend, Red's, home, I don't think he'd like to know you were in here scavenging," she taunted, faking a pout before drawing in a deep breath through her nose.

Salem took a seat on the soft carpet floor for this luxury bullshit lecture. He looked at her with a expression of boredom. As she was talking he gazed around for another look at the room around them, he didn't really search it before. He didn't realize it before but there was an electric heater under the chimney, he'd seen something like it before. It would make a good enough orange light source not to attract attention. It would work nicely.
"Second why are you here? There's nothing you need."
Salem snapped his vision back over to her and rolled his eyes "Actually there is something I need here. And if you're just gunna nag on me then leave. I on the other hand am going to get the heat turned up in here." he replied getting up and walking past her. "Why don't you make like a banana and fuck yourself." he finished as his paws raised to turn on the heater. Twisting a golden amber knob a darkened orange light flashed like lightning before settling like a storm. Warm wind soon erupted from it making a quieting humming noise. He listened in silence for a moment before the female spoke up again.
:This is my friend, Red's, home, and I don't think he'd like to know you were in here scavenging." she asserted. Salem turned back, blinking carelessly. "Look girl, I've had a rough, and rather upsetting day. I'm sure Red wouldn't care if I used up some heat, watched TV, and raided the fridge. Besides. It going to rain tonight and I don't want to freeze. If you want to die out there because Red doesn't like intruders, then be my guest alright." he said bluntly as he made his way down the black hallway.

She had the sudden urge to actually roll in it, for the warmth. "Actually there is something I need here. And if you're just gunna nag on me then leave. I on the other hand am going to get the heat turned up in here." What was 'the heat'? She watched as he padded to an orange block and twisted a knob. What the hell was the cat doing? She didn't feel threatened, exactly, and he surely didn't either. Red would mind though, and frankly he'd be quite pissed that they're in the house at the moment. She didn't want his Twolegs to think it was all her fault that he was here.
"Why don't you make like a banana and fuck yourself," the tan and dark mocha fur along her spine began to lift in annoyance. As the heater released the humming she jumped for a moment, and shoved herself against the wall, as if that could protect her from the noise.
"Look girl, I've had a rough, and rather upsetting day. I'm sure Red wouldn't care if I used up some heat, watched TV, and raided the fridge. Besides. It going to rain tonight and I don't want to freeze. If you want to die out there because Red doesn't like intruders, then be my guest alright." She rolled her light blue optics at him, before pawing after him down the dark hallway. "What's up your ass?" she muttered under her breath. Not sure if he heard her question, she looked up and faked a pout, "Aw, baby, what's wrong?"
She flicked her tail, trying to get a glimpse of the hallway, but she couldn't find anything but blackness. "If you know how to turn that heat thing on, how do you see in here? You have to surely know?" she asked, picking up the pace to walk next to him. The walls around her felt quite foreign. She'd never spent this long in Red's house, just until the rain thinned out or the thunder went away, or it stopped snowing. She felt claustrophobic she felt trapped and she had the sudden urge to get out of the box of a twoleg's house. How could they stand to be cooped up like this?

Salem's trek down the corridor was a funny one as the female followed him. She mumbled something too quiet for him to hear and was silent for a moment. Salem hoped she wasn't planning on taking him down because he'd smash her head into a wall if trifled with at the moment. A few bumps of heart beats passed before she finally spoke breaking the eerie silence.
"Aw, baby, what's wrong?" she asked. What game was this bitch playing? Did she really think she could sweet talk him? She was in for a whole different game when she saw what he was doing. Keeping quiet he stalked down the human cavern until the smooth tile floor was underneath his paw pads. The kitchen. "If you know how to turn that heat thing on, how do you see in here? You have to surely know?". Salem half grinned, now she wasn't toying around. If he didn't know any better he'd say she's terrified of the dark.
"All these places are built similarly. I was in one long ago. With someone." he replied, his chest aching with that last line. He gazed around his green eyes like searchlights and spotted the fridge. Making his way to it he turned to her. "Hey, I need to get on your back for a moment. I need to reach up there for a second." he told nicer than he usually would have. But this girl had trouble written all over her and personally Salem didn't feel like dealing with it.

At least he hadn't heard her, for he was clearly in a bad mood. When she pretended to pity him, he looked pissed, and for a moment she was about to step back in confusion. She was just kidding, he had to know that? She wouldn't hesitate to do it again. She almost wanted a fight. She knew the cat was a loner, though, not a kittypet, like Red. Kittypets were usually plump, not to mention the fact mostly all of them have visited the cutter. Red had explained to her that she-cats that had kits usually had them taken away. She would rather live in the wild, having to catch every piece of prey to survive then have her kits taken away from her. It was a preference, like most queens would've chosen.
Still, the she-cat wasn't interested in having kits. They seemed like a lot of damn work. She had herself to take care of, and that was what she liked the most about being a loner. That was the whole reason she was a loner. Clan life was so fucking dumb. You had to wake up early every morning to hunt for the weak of your clan, and you had to hunt but you couldn't eat it till you were extremely hungry and the rest of the clan had eaten the fresh-kill. She'd gone nights without eating prey, and she was fucking sick of it. She just wanted to eat. Then she could catch prey for the kits and elders.
The warrior code was dumb too. Everything was dumb. So was StarClan, she barely even believed in that shit. She caught a glimpse of a grin on his maw after she'd asked if he knew where the light switch was. She was curious for a moment, but just shook it off. She was probably just imagining it. "All these places are built similarly. I was in one long ago. With someone." His voice sort of drowned out on his last two words. "With who?" she asked herself. She planned on asking the tom, but she stopped herself. Maybe that would be a question for later.
The tom turned around and asked her if he could reach the large box. She blinked and tilted her head for a moment. "Errr, sure?" she half answered half asked, dumbfounded. She pressed herself against the cold box, her paw pads sliding on the tile floor. She had just noticed how unbelievably cold the floor beneath her was. She braced her legs for the large load that was about to stand on her. She was probably going to fall, as she was a sort of small she-cat, and he was a errr rather large tom.
"After, you have to tell me why you were upset when you said you lived with somebody else," she titled her head to the side in a questioning manner, hoping he wasn't going to get offended at her demand. "Sorry, I didn't mean it like that.." | [atrb= cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0px,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, border-radius: 0 0 30 0; background-color: #F8F8F8; border: #E9E9E9 solid 4px; padding: 6px;]

Salem nodded at the females tilting reaction. Prepping himself for the balancing act he placed was about to place his paws on her when she popped a question.
"After you tell me why you were upset when you said you lived with someone else."
Salem glared at her for a moment as if his green eyes were melting holes in her face.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that..."
His expression went blank as he lifted his veil from her. "I only knew here for a short time. We mostly spent our time on the road in a car we'd hitch a ride in for time to time." he began as he pressed his paws on her braced back and lifted himself up. Staggering a bit he quickly regain his balance, Salem probably didn't have much time. True she looked fearsome but she was still smaller than him.
"We once stayed in a human house for a while. We learned so much that would help in the future. She was always willing to try things she didn't understand." Salem broke off as he wrapped his arms around the fridge's handle. Pressing his legs against the door he kicked back with enough power to slam open the door. Holding on for a few seconds he dropped down on the tile as the bright light impacted with his eyes and the cold air whirred around his fur. Gazing over at her he flicked his tail to it all "Names Salem." he announced as he raised up on his hind legs and grabbed a short bottle off one of the line racks. "You and me are about to get really fucked up." he declared smiling.

Abruptly, the harshness of his gaze disappeared. When she felt his large paws upon her spine she bunched her muscles and closed her eyes. She clenched her fangs together, the darkness of her eyelids engulfing her. "We once stayed in a human house for a while. We learned so much that would help in the future. She was always willing to try things she didn't understand." She missed a bit of it because she was too busy holding back cries of pain.
She heard a sort of sucking sound, like something sticky popping. When she heard the box open, her back was relieved when he hopped off. She tried to hide back a sigh of contentment, glad to only be supporting her own weight. The bitter cold of the fridge blasted at her suddenly, and she took a few steps away. She could smell meat in the fridge, along with the white liquid Red's parents often gave her. The bright light illuminated the room they were in and she recognized the large tables and curved platforms. "Names Salem." Was it her time to say her name? "I'm Nightingale," she continued, slowly. When he grabbed the body she got worried it was going to shatter.
What was in it? "You and me are about to get really fucked up." He spoke excitedly. She cocked her head to the side. "What do you mean?" she asked gingerly, leaning over and giving the bottle a soft sniff.

Salem gracefully gripped the bottle by its sharp cap and whipped around almost smashing it against Nightingale's head. Setting it on the ground tilted his head in admiration of her short sided thinking. "What I mean uhhh. Damn you name is a mouthful. Got a nickname gal?" he asked setting the bottle on its side and holding it next to his side with his tail.
"And what I mean is that you're about to forget all your problems for a good long night. Not very complicated." he answered nonchalantly. Salem figured she had never experienced being drunk before. Let alone a hangover, but hey, they'll get to that tomorrow. His smiled still planted on his face he gestured with his tail. "Lay down on your back, you're about to witness the magic of drowning out sorrows." he said despite how awkward a demand like that was. Gripping the razor edged cap with his clawed paws he popped it off without loosing any sweet liquid. A loud pop filled the room with the release of pressure on the bottle. "Got a tip for you, breath through your nose alright." he directed pushing the bottle over to her.

For a moment she was completely hypnotized by the bottle being whisked in the air. The dark colored bottle flew in the air gripped by Salem. The black figure seemed completely sure of what he was doing. With a sudden realization, she pulled her cranium back, for the bottle was being whipped right in front of her mask. As he set it on the ground she was sure to focus her icy pool hued optics into a nervous glare, only being transformed when he spoke. "What I mean uhhh. Damn your name is a mouthful. Got a nickname gal?" She hadn't exactly had a nickname, but she spoke whatever popped up in her mind, "Errr, uh, you can call me Night, I guess," she shrugged, watching him pull the bottle to his side with his tail.
"And what I mean is that you're about to figure all your problems for a good long night. Not very complicated," he seemed very calm about the whole thing. She wasn't sure if she could trust the cocky cat. He already seemed to have an attitude. "Lay down on your back, you're about to witness the magic of drowning out your sorrows," She tilted her head to the side for a moment. Was she really about to do this? When the bottle popped she jumped, startled by the noise. "Got a top for you, breathe through your nose, alright?" he implied, leaning the bottle to her.
She wasn't exactly sure what to do at that moment so, she laid down, and complied to his order. Breathe through your nose, breathe through your nose. She practiced for a moment, hoping he wouldn't notice. She was worried for a bit. "If you fuck me up or anything, I'm gonna be pissed," she muttered under her breath, just enough for him to hear her. She embraced her mouth for the liquid that smelled strong and mysterious at the same time.

Salem smirked at her comment, it would do no good, she'd be too preoccupied trying to stand after this little event. But thats why there was TV and heater. He made sure it wouldn't just end on the kitchen tiles. "Trust me Night, I'd rather suave it out of you." he chuckled, not even sure if the joke reached through her skull yet. Too late for her to think now of course as he brought the bottle next to her heat and slowly titled it over her mouth. "Seriously don't drown. I'm sure Red would be pretty down if some cat died right in his fucking kitchen."
The sweet liquid began to make its way out of the glass container and to Night's open jaws. "Drink for a solid fifteen seconds alright! It'll set in after a few minutes. Just enough time for me to get wasted too." he told not restraining the bottle from its directive.
Salem watched her drink and counted the numbers down in his head. He was already craving the elixir and wanted to get it over with fast. The soon the better.

She acknowledged his smirk and thought really quickly about getting up so he couldn't pour the liquid into her open maw. "Trust me Night, I'd rather suave it out of you," she heard his chuckle but it was too late to go back on her decision because when she opened her eyes the tom was already tilting the bottle towards her maw. "Seriously, don't drown. I'm sure Red would be pretty down if some cat died right in his fucking kitchen."
Worry pierced her heart for a moment. The liquid burned as it set in her mouth, she was too afraid to swallow. When the liquid began to overflow in her mouth, she began to swallow it. "Drink for a solid fifteen seconds alright! It'll set in after a few minutes. Just enough time for me to get wasted too." She noticed the lust in his eyes and she began to swallow as fast as she could. The liquid was sweet, but as it glided down her throat her icy gaze began to water and after about 12 seconds she rolled around and stood back up.
Slightly embarrassed, and grossed out by the liquid, she sheepishly half smiled, "Sorry.." There was some of the liquid on the cold, tiled floor. "Your turn?"

Salem frowned at her cop-out. It was a bit of a waste and a mess to see the drink covering some of the floor and making its way around the tile's cracks. But he shrugged rolling the half empty bottle over to her. "No worries Night, its typical of a novice. But that was enough to mess you up in a few minutes so its all good. I really can't believe you've never done this." he pondered aloud. She looked like the frisky and wild type, but maybe it stood for something else. Didn't matter though, the night had just begun.
"Your turn"
Salem nodded giving a half smile. "Hell yeah. But uhh" he gave a displeased look at the ground before them. "Not here, I don't want to get this crap all over me. It can get sticky. Speaking of which you got it all over the side of your face. But I'll show you later how to get it off later. But for now hit me up."
Walking over to a new area in the kitchen Salem fell over and flipped onto his back. "I'll finish that if you don't mind, I think I can handle it." he suggested firmly. His tail was lashing across the ground in anticipation and likewise his mouth began to water. He turned to her waiting anxiously for the bottle to come spilling. "Don't hold back pansy." he finished.
