PERSONALITY:
Coalpaw doesn't like talking to cats he doesn't know well. The best most will get out of him are one digit replies and noncommittal sounds like grunts. Oh, and lets not forget those sarcastic answers that make everyone want to rip you to shreds! Yes, that is Coalpaw. He's never been a very trusting guy and prefers to brood in the shadows rather than chatter away every inkling of a thought he's ever had.
Those whom do waste their breath with useless comments and stupid opinions for equally mouse-brained arguements annoy Coalpaw and see more of his snarky, cruel side. Getting all into his business like you understand him more than he understands himself is also a big no-no. As far as he's concerned, no one will ever understand himself, not even him. It's shard for him to fully grasp why he grieves his uncle so. They had only known eachother a handful of moons yet they were very close. He is still trying to figure out whether it was as like a father or a mentor more. Either way, he's shocked he has so much emotion toward anyone aside from his other kin. Most of that is hatred for the neglect or regret for leaving them.
Not really one for canoeing his emotions right off the bat, Coalpaw settles for a mysterious, intelligent loner whom isn't to be messed with. Those who know him;however, get to see that he's just a wary kid trying to find a place in this messed up world. He's not a fearless as he seems and is only looking for true friends. He's put up with bullshitters before and won't be as stupid as to full-heartedly trust just anyone.
HISTORY:
Father:Pantherfrost- large black tom with pale yellow eyes.
Mother: Heavyfeather-fluffy black she-cat with white tipped paws and soft green eyes. deceased
Older brothers: Beetlewhisker - A black and white tom with a long tail and burning yellow eyes.
Crowtail- black tom with a fluffy tail and light green eyes.
Younger brother: Magpiekit- a small black tom with a white chest and dark green eyes.
Mentor: Rookfang- black tom with a white underbelly and bright yellow eyes. deceased
Pantherfrost and Heavyfeather were well on their way in life by the time they had Coalpaw. Their sons Beetlewhisker and Crowtail were already warriors at the time. In fact, on the day of their warrior ceremony, Heavyfeather went into labor. While the stubborn she-cat was writhing in the pain of birth, she sent her mate, Pantherfrost to see their sons become warriors. After a short argument, the icy warrior agreed to watch the ceremony instead of greeting his new kits.
First came a stillborn she-cat Heavyfeather named Ospreykit. Then, there was a weak tom named Batkit. Last but not least was a strong tom named Coalkit. He was the only one to survive in his litter. By the time the warrior ceremony had ended, Batkit had stopped breathing and died. It was a sad day for both parents. The fact that they still had one child seemed to help only a little. Beetlewhisker and Crowtail helped as much as they could, but being warriors took up much of their time. Pantherfrost was also busy with his duties and spending time with his brother, Rookfang. Both had been close since they were young and constantly together. Dealing with Heavyfeather's grief while he was also hurting from their children's death was too much, so Pantherfrost avoided the nursery like a plague.
Left with only her new kitten for comfort since the nursery was otherwise empty, Heavyfeather formed a very tight bond with her precious Coalkit. He turned out to be quite the character. With a naturally snarky sarcasm and odd way of cheering others up with that sharp tongue of his. Heavyfeather adored how much he was like his father and raised him to look after himself carefully because many cats would set him up for disappointment.
As one of the elder queens, Heavyfeather experienced heartbreak and abandonment several times before. She'd even recently gotten very disappointed because of Pantherfrost's behavior toward his son.
Over time, Coalkit and Pantherfrost's relationship got seven more distant. Some even believed that Coalkit was Rookfang's because he visited so much more! Then, because of how close they were, Coalkit was assigned as Rookfang's apprentice.
The duo worked well together and were a very strong pair. Becoming the best fighter of all the apprentices, Coalpaw was a strong, lethal fighter yet terrible hunter and tracker. So, one day, Rookfang took Coalpaw out on a hunting patrol which Pantherfrost and Beetlewhisker were a part of. Allowing Coalpaw to go on head of the patrol, the black tom had forgotten to scent his surroundings for rogues since they were near the Twoleg place border. Sure enough, three huge rogues leaped out at the patrol. Soon getting knocked unconscious from his loss of blood because of the skillful, humongous cats, Coalpaw left his mentor to protect him at the cost of Rookfang's life.
Coalpaw was in the medicine cat's den for a solid three moons. Most of the time he was doped up on herbs, so he didn't notice Rookfang never visited;however, once he was well enough, he began to ask why his beloved mentor hadn't visited and still didnt. He feared what he w thought was the worst: Rookfang was disappointed and hated him for being so weak. It turned out way worse. Rookfang was dead and so was his precious mother. All he had left were his brothers and a distant father who hated his guts for getting his brother killed, and a baby brother named Magpiekit.
It was up to young Coalpaw to raise Magpiekit because his family refused to since he reminded them so much of Heavyfeather. So, Coalpaw has been looking out for his brother and reason for existence ever since with the help of his childhood friend, Leopardpaw.

COAL: his black fur.FROST: his cold eyes and personality.
